Na ta poume?

client Metaxas Graphic Arts
The greeting card for the new year 2014 that I designed for the Metaxas graphic arts workshop. Designing the concept has been a challenging but enjoyable adventure into the world of classic letterpress typography. It came to life thanks to the knowledge and skills of Nondas Metaxas and his workshop in Patras.

The “Na ta poume” (= May we wish you?) card is actually a “Happy New Year” wishing card, designed especially for the small printing workshop of Nontas Metaxas in Patras, Greece. The content of the card is, what else, the christmas greek carols, but in a seldom local version.

The whole project was intensively designed to be made with traditional typographical methods and tools. Even the paper, is 100% custom handmade, with double immersion in two different colored paper pulps. Paper is also elementary watermarked. The handmade envelope is not die-cutted, but formated during paper making, with a custom wood frame. For the text, we used two historical greek typefaces. The card is letter pressed on Original Heidelberg Tiegel press machine. The whole procedure is described thoroughly in the colophon session, at the back page of the card. Finally, each card has a unique address on the cover page, printed manually, as a kind of variable data printing, yet traditional, not digital.
